For most people who are travelling, it is not financially possible to stay in the most luxurious of hotels, or eat in the most fancy restaurants en route. Whilst it is nice to be able to enjoy these luxuries, when you are travelling on a budget, you will simply not be able to do it. Travelers who are on a budget would rather economize on their travel costs so that when they reach their destination, they will have more money to spend. There are some great ideas for saving money when travel so that you will have plenty of spending money at the end of your trip.

You should try to book in advance. Many travel companies will charge you less if you book in advance and if you can be specific about when you want to travel. If you have only a little time to make your travel arrangements and are not too fussy about what time you want to travel, sometimes travel firms will sell of their unsold seats at a reduced rate in order to get as many seats full as possible. Be careful because if you are in a group and you book this way, you are likely to be sitting apart from one another for the trip.

When you are making your travel arrangements, try to be flexible about when you can travel. If you travel mid week, it is often far cheaper than travelling at the weekend. You will also find that if you can be flexible about the time of day that you travel, over night trips can be significantly cheaper than day time trips.

If you need to make any stops along the way, or if your trip will be quite long in duration, you need to think about your eating arrangements. Take snacks with you if you can, and eat at fast food outlets instead of at expensive restaurants where possible.
